  • f you have been hacked and protecting your passwords

Just wanted to help out the many victims of rapidshare/gmail/myspace phishers out there.Victoire

    Have I been hacked?

Suspecting you have clicked on a suspicious link from which you haven't been actually redirected to your own account but to the original login page? Suspecting you have downloaded and clicked a suspicious file that didn't seem to open or just shown up an error message?
Well this is the right thread for you. My friend, you might have just been backdoored or what's legally called "multiple impersonated" (not sure tho). More noob friendly explanation : a skiddie has just taken control over your PC/Accounts.

    Suppositions:

1.You have tried to log in from a suspicious link and got redirected to the main page.

This doesn't happen in normal circumstances with ANY site, even though it might be DDoSed meanwhile. The only left option would be to consider the fact that you have been phished. Suposing you have a RS account and have been the victim of such a skiddie, you should immediately check the "Logs" section in you accounts panel and see if there might be any different IP's logged in. If there are other IPs then you might have been hacked/phished.

2.You have downloaded/executed a suspicious file which didn't seem to start.

If you had a firewall installed, it might have triggered an alarm about it. Considering you didn't have one then the file that might have been the server of a password stealer/trojan/keylogger ran without any blocks and allowed the skiddie access to your PC. If you have ever heard of the story of the Trojan Horse and Troy then you might understand now where the name of the "Trojan Horse Viruses" comes from. Basically a trojan/stealer/keylogger is meant to take unauthorized access to a person's PC and gather as much private information as possible. Yes that means you might be screwed Pinch. To check if your passwords have been really jaked just go to some site that stores the IP of the users that login like RS/MU/Gmail.

In both of the cases, you might consider changing ALL of your passwords as soon as possible.

How can I protect my passwords??

Guess what? This problem is solved 100% Oui
Here are some of the best ways to secure your passwords:

    1.Master Password

Probably the easiest way to secure your firefox passwords. Just follow these simple steps:

    1.Go to Firefox>Tools>Options>Security
2.Check the box with The master password and enter the desired password.
What the master password basically does is to encrypt your passwords from the signons.txt with itself.
3.Now click on OK and you are secured!

    2.Password Hasher

Download the Mozilla Firefox plug in "Password Hasher from Here, install it and restart Firefox. It basically encrypts your passwords with the MD5 encryption algorithm.

Hope this helped, spent 45 mins on it.
